This image is similar to what we’ve seen in the trailer that made its debut months ago. This funeral teases the plot of Dark Phoenix even more. In the trailer we can see the characters in attendance of the funeral, but this image gives us a better look at who’s actually at this funeral. Honestly, what’s interesting and worrisome at the same time is the undeniable question in all of our minds: Who are they mourning? Could it be a fellow mutant? Or maybe a human ally? Maybe they think Jean Grey herself is dead? Who knows?
What we do know of the movie now, is that Director Simon Kinberg is releasing his take on the Dark Phoenix saga, which we previously saw in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. As you may or may not know, in the comics the Dark Phoenix is an alter ego of Jean Grey when the Phoenix Force gets control of her body. This “energy” is one of the most powerful forces in the Marvel Comics multiverse; even rivaling the power of The Infinity Gauntlet or the Cosmic Cube. Knowing this, we’re sure that we’ll see all the power Jean Grey displayed in X-Men: Apocalypse an then some.
Whose funeral do you think it is? Tell us in the comments below!
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”
The film is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019.
