Samuel L. Jackson On Nick Fury’s Absence In ‘Captain America: Civil War’

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Samuel L. Jackson shared his thoughts on Nick Fury’s absence in Captain America: Civil War.

Although Nick Fury was the one who assembled Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to form The Avengers, the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director was absent during the superhero’s conflict over the Sokovia Accords and how to handle Captain America’s involuntarily weaponized friend Bucky Barnes. While Nick Fury was forced to go into hiding after the events of The Winter Soldier, Samuel L. Jackson stated that he believes the character should have been present during Captain America: Civil War considering he was the one who brought our heroes together:

“Except for things like Civil War. If all the Avengers are f****ing fighting each other, where’s their guardian? Where’s that dude who comes in and goes ‘Alright, everybody go to your rooms. I’ll be in there to talk to you in a minute.’ Either he’s the guy who brought them together and he’s the glue, or he’s not. So, I felt a way about that.”

Samuel L. Jackson returns a young Nick Fury in Captain Marvel, in which the future S.H.I.E.L.D. director first discovers there are superpowered individuals in the universe.

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
