Nicole Kidman On Why Her Age In ‘Aquaman’ Isn’t A Problem

Aquaman star Nicole Kidman fires back at fans online saying that she’s not old enough to play Jason Momoa’s mom.

When it comes to adaptations of any comic book character, there’s always something that just isn’t perfect enough for some fans. When someone has been a fan of a character for decades, it’s hard to not to get antsy when certain things change between adaptation and source material, but these changes aren’t always made for the worst. Folks thought Hugh Jackman was too tall and handsome to play Wolverine, and of course, fans complained about Gal Gadot being too skinny prior to her appearance as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Since then, the two actors have offered two of the most iconic big screen portrayals of comic book characters in history. The latest qualm from some Aquaman fans is Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Arthur Curry’s mom. Arthur is being played by Jason Momoa, who is 39 years old, only twelve years younger than the 51-year-old Kidman. Some fans have taken to social media to air their grievances about Kidman being way too young to play the mom of Momoa but in a recent interview with Variety, she clarified why her age isn’t a problem in Aquaman.

“In the context of the superhero world, it all evens out.”

Kidman then clarified her point and revealed a very important ability that her character has.

“Atlanna doesn’t really age.”

It seems that despite some fans thinking that she is too young to play the role, as always when those fans see the final cut of Aquaman it will all make sense. Atlanna’s role in the film isn’t being revealed too heavily in the marketing for the film but the footage that has been released features awesome costumes and that signature James Wan action, which the filmmaker showcased in his 2015 film Furious 7.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Aquaman as soon as more information becomes available. What are your thoughts on Kidman playing Atlanna? If you don’t agree with the casting, then who do you feel would have been a better fit for the role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an acition-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.
