‘No Time To Die’ Star Says Female Characters Aren’t There To Please James Bond

No Time to Die star Lea Seydoux has said that the women of the James Bond franchise are not there simply to please him.

The James Bond franchise has been notable for a number of things since its first installment was released in 1962. Two of the more notable things have, of course, been attractive male actors playing the titular character and a new gorgeous woman playing a supporting role in each new film. This has caused some to criticize the franchise over the years and No Time to Die star Lea Seydoux isn’t shy about her opinions on James Bond.

Lea Seydoux first appeared in the James Bond franchise in the 2015 film, Spectre. In it, she played Dr. Madeleine Swann who was revealed to be the daughter of reoccurring James Bond antagonist, Mr. White. She survived the events of the film and is set to return to the role for No Time to Die.

During a recent interview with Bazaar, the No Time to Die star talked about James Bond and the role of Bond girls and how they aren’t there to please the character’s sexuality:

“We are not here to please Bond’s sexuality. What we forget is that James Bond is also a sexual object. He’s totally a sexual object. He’s one of the few, maybe one of the only, male characters to be sexualized. I think that women, they love to see Bond, no? To see his body. No? Don’t you think?”

What do you all make of Lea Seydoux’s words? Are you looking forward to seeing her return in No Time to Die? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here is the official synopsis for Daniel Craig’s No Time to Die:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga from a script co-written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, David Dencik and Dali Benssalah.

No Time To Die will be released in theaters on November 25, 2020.
