Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez Uses ‘Watchmen’ Quote To Respond To Critics

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t shy when it comes to responding to criticism online and in her latest response she quotes Rorschach from Watchmen

An article posted on Politico stated that the House Democratic Caucus is irritated with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. She is currently the newest representative from New York’s 14th district.  In response to this criticism, Latino Victory Fund President Cristobal J. Alex made a comment reposting this article via his Twitter page. Ocasio-Cortez retweeted his comment and added her own commentary in which she quotes the iconic line from Rorschach.

An appropriate response and if any of those politicians have read Watchmen, they would know she shouldn’t be taken lightly in anyway. In the comics, Rorschach follows that quote by retaliating his attackers in the prison cell. He even burns one of them with a deep fryer. Although Ocasio-Ortez obviously wouldn’t do that, quoting the iconic graphic novel is a metaphor for how strong willed she is in her views.

Rorschach is probably the most politically-charged character out of the entire comic and he bares similar parallels with the congresswoman. Both aren’t shy about their views and are ready to speak up about how they feel about situations, never willing to back down for the greater good.

Watchmen is coming soon as a series on HBO later in 2019.
