A good guy in red is coming back to theaters, but this time, the Merc with the Mouth won’t just have his usual band of sidekicks with him. No, this time, Deadpool’s companion will be none other than Fred Savage. As you know by now, there’s going to be a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 coming to theaters for a limited time in December. And this version is, as Wade tells a tied down Fred Savage, filtered through the prism of childlike innocence. And apparently nobody does childlike innocence better than Fred Savage.
Yes, Fred Savage, the grown man who has since gone on to do childlike things like direct episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is tied down and won’t be hearing a story like The Princess Bride this time. Today, Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to do what he does best: promotion. This time, he released a teaser for the PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2. We’re treated to various scenes in the Deadpool sequel, but we do get one new scene of Wade speaking to an old couple on a bench that he believes is the same couple from Up.
Fred Savage isn’t impressed. In fact, he lets Wade know that he’s more into Marvel movies. Wade reminds Fred that Deadpool 2 is a Marvel film, but then you get into the usual semantics of how Sony and Fox’s projects are technically Marvel, but not Marvel Studios. It’s apparently like if the Beatles music was produced by Nickelback. It’s music, but it sucks. It’s the little details, you know? And very Savage burn, Fred Savage. Here, have a look at the trailer for Once Upon a Deadpool in the video below.
So this is definitely going to be one of those limited release features, ergo catch it while you can. It remains to be seen just how much of the footage shown will be new compared to what we’ve already seen in Deadpool 2, but hey, it’s Wade Wilson sharing a story with Fred Savage.
