The Original Ghostbusters Cast Will Return In New Sequel

The original Ghostbusters cast will return next year in the new sequel announced yesterday, Ernie Hudson confirmed.

Yesterday we learned that Reitman, son of Director Ivan Reitman who helmed Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, will be making a sequel to his father’s Ghostbusters versions. Today Ernie Hudson confirmed to the Daily Mail that he will reprise his role as Winston Zeddemore along with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd who will also star in the movie as Peter Venkman and Ray Stantz, respectively. Unfortunately, the only one that will not be returning is Harold Ramis to reprise his role as Egon Spengler, since he passed away in 2014.

This news adds even more excitement on yesterday’s announcement after Paul Feig’s all-female cast 2016 film reboot was a bitter disappointment for fans and critics alike, who were hoping for a strong revival of the New York ghost-busting team. That movie saw a mediocre performance on the box office where it merely doubled the film’s original budget. It seems that performance showed Sony Pictures that the franchise needed its original cast in order to be revived, even if the three original remaining members of the team made cameos in Feig’s film.

Also, we still haven’t heard anything about Sigourney Weaver or Annie Potts joining the film to reprise her roles as Venkman’s love interest Dana Barret and Ghostbusters’ secretary Janine Melnitz. Maybe even Rick Moranis could show up, even though he’s reportedly retired from acting a long time ago. That may be the dream of any Ghostbusters fan in the world!
