Oscar Isaac Says ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Will Honor Carrie Fisher

It seems that Poe Dameron’s relationship with Leia Organa has a bit more to it as Oscar Isaac has stated that Star Wars: Episode IX will continue to explore it and give her a place of honor.

During a recent interview, Oscar Isaac talked about the late Carrie Fisher’s role in the upcoming film. While the exact content of the arc was not revealed it seems to be something of a continuation of the arc Poe Damian shared with both Leia and Vice Admiral Holdo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It will be that of the relatively young, impulsive hotshot and the older, more grounded leader.

He also stated that he was not surprised that unused footage of Leia would be finding its way into Star Wars: Episode IX:

I wasn’t surprised because I remember we were doing that, we worked a lot. [Fisher] and I worked together so much. We would talk about the scenes, and we got very tight during the shooting of that. So it was a beautiful thing to see, and it gets carried over into the new film as well.

Oscar Isaac then stated that Carrie Fisher’s role in the film was an important one and should not be one that simply fades away:

It was definitely an unusual thing, but I also think it was right to engage with her character, and not just let it be something that fades away.

He later stated that the film would give Carrie Fisher and Leia Organa “a proper place of honor.” in the upcoming film. If this is to be believed, both Poe Damian and Leia have a bit more growing to do before their story is finished.

What do you all make of Oscar Isaac’s comments? Are you looking forward to seeing Leia and Poe’s arc reach its final stage? Was it sufficiently explored in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?
