Marvel Studios has earned nominations at the Oscars before but tonight, it has finally won its first ever Academy Award. Previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films such as Doctor Strange, The Avengers, both entries of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and Iron Man have earned nomainations at the Oscars but Ruth E. Carter’s incredible work on Black Panther finally brought the gold to the MCU.
Ruth E. Carter’s work on Black Panther has been praised ever since the film hit theaters last February. Carter won the award tonight for Best Costume Design and it’s far from the last of the Marvel Studios’ nominations this evening. Black Panther is still up for the Best Motion Picture award, for which it is battling films such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Roma, Green Book, The Favourite, Vice, and A Star Is Born for.

After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king.
