Diana Prince's sequel will only debut in theaters says the director.
As the world of film and TV continue to face disruptions due to the ongoing pandemic, it’s been suggested by many fans and a minority of critics that some major releases that have faced delays should pivot to a premium video-on-demand release instead, much like Mulan and Trolls: World Tour. However many studios are committed to giving their tentpole films a theatrical debut. And when questions were recently raised about Wonder Woman 1984, director Patty Jenkins dismissed the idea that the upcoming DC film could debut on a service like HBO Max.
So far, the sequel has been delayed several times, as it was originally slated to arrive in December 2019. And a new report suggested Wonder Woman 1984 will arrive on streaming services later this year as well as its theatrical release, but director Patty Jenkins took to Twitter to confirm that a direct-to-streaming debut “is not even being discussed.” She explained that the studio is behind the “theatrical experience” for the sequel alongside supporting theaters.
Are you glad that Wonder Woman 1984 will definitely get a theatrical release? Or do you think Patty Jenkins should consider a streaming release for the film instead? Sound-off in the comments!
