‘Wonder Woman’: Patty Jenkins Breaks Down The Iconic No Man’s Land Scene

Happy International Women’s Day, one and all! To celebrate, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is taking fans behind the scenes of the now-iconic No Man’s Land sequence.

The breakdown comes from Rotten Tomatoes via their official Twitter page. It kicks off with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins asking about the birth of a superhero then referencing Clark Kent’s iconic tearing of his shirt, which reveals the Superman “S.” Going into the film, Patty Jenkins knew she needed a similar moment for Wonder Woman and No Man’s Land became that moment.

Patty Jenkins goes on to speak about how important No Man’s Land is to the character of Diana (Gal Gadot). It is the pivotal moment in Wonder Woman where she realizes what it means to be a hero and the importance of putting an end to all the violence.

Patty Jenkins applauds her star Gal Gadot’s commitment to the scene and its importance to Wonder Woman, standing out in the middle of a frozen tundra while the rest of the cast and crew are comfortably wrapped in parkas.

The interview ends with Patty Jenkins warmly referencing how that sequence spoke to a disabled viewer at one of her screenings who saw himself in Diana at that particular moment. It is a touching story. See it for yourself below:

Gal Gadot is set to reprise her role in the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984. Full details on the plot are currently unknown, though the film will follow the titular hero as she comes into conflict with the Soviet Union in the 1980s and encounters a formidable new adversary named Cheetah.

Directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she co-wrote with David Callaham and a treatment she developed with Geoff Johns, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wigg, Pedro Pascal, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Connie Nielson, and Robin Wright.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in theaters on November 1, 2019.
