Though filming has wrapped on Wonder Woman 1984, Patty Jenkins is in the middle of doing press for her upcoming miniseries, I Am the Night. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins stated that while she wasn’t set yet on the timeline, she’s definitely not dying to do another period piece. Here’s what she had to say:
“”I’m not set, but I’m not dying to do another period piece…it’s definitely one of the things we’ve talked about. I’m not pining to put it in the past again because then where are you gonna go? You have to go forward. So it’s definitely a contemporary story. That’s all I can say. And so where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven’t totally nailed down.”
The idea of having Wonder Woman films take place in the past does help fill in some blanks with her backstory, as well as showcase what Diana was up to in between her films and Batman v Superman. At the same time, though, there’s plenty of ground to cover with a contemporary Wonder Woman story as well. After all, Captain America: The Winter Soldier gave us a story with Steve Rogers in the modern world rather than another story between World War II and The Avengers.
Plus, besides Batman v Superman, we’ve only seen modern day Diana in Justice League. So there’s plenty of ground to cover in a present day Wonder Woman film, for sure. Here, you can watch Patty Jenkins discuss the hypothetical third Wonder Woman film in the video below at the 0:11 mark:
Ultimately, though, a third Wonder Woman is no doubt a ways off from now. Before we get there, we have Wonder Woman 1984 on the horizon next year. After that, though, where would you like to see Patty Jenkins take Diana? Plus, what would you want to see in a modern day Wonder Woman film? Let us know in the comments below.
