Patty Jenkins Reveals Why ‘Wonder Woman’ Has No Post-Credit Scene

Post-credits scenes have become a cinematic staple for comic book films that have been popularized by Marvel Studios as the only other DC Extended Universe film to have dabbled in an after-credits sequence thus far has been Suicide Squad. Although most fans and moviegoers alike were made aware that Wonder Woman would stray away from having an after-credits scene, director Patty Jenkins revealed in a recent interview with the Toronto Sun why she decided to not take part in the cinematic trend:

“I’m not always a believer in post-credit scenes. I feel like they make sense if the films are extremely similar.”

The director further stressed that she felt it was important for the film to stand on its own and to feel completely organic:

“I think if you know the next movie is going to be set in the same world or have the exact same tone, then I think it makes sense. To me, it does not make sense to have a commercial for a completely different style of movie in the credits of another movie.”

Jenkins praised how the studio was supportive in not only her decision towards Wonder Woman’s tone but to also have it as a stand-alone film rather than to feel pressured into having to advertise a future film in the DC Extended Universe:

“One of my favorite things about the DC Universe is they were super supportive of me doing my own tone, but there’s no other movie that they have that’s of the same tone. So it just felt weird to do some other crossover. Also, the end of the movie was the end. It wasn’t, ‘Tune in later for more.’”

In the meantime, it is rumored that the next entry in the DC Extended Universe, Justice League will harbor not one but two post-credits scenes.  However, given the record-breaking box office and critical success of Wonder Woman leading to Jenkins returning to the director’s chair for the sequel in 2019, it remains to be seen if her stance on post-credits scenes could possibly change over time.
