Paul Bettany first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as only a voice in 2008’s Iron Man. The actor played Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) AI companion JARVIS. In 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Paul Bettany’s presence was upgraded to an on-camera role thanks to the introduction of Vision.
The character Vision has since appeared in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately, Paul Bettany’s Vision was one of many MCU characters killed at the end of Infinity War but if a new Endgame theory is correct, Paul Bettany’s Avenger may not be dead after all.
Vision was a very integral part of the story proceeding Avengers: Endgame in last year’s Infinty War because the gem in his head that gives him sentient life is one of the six Infinity Stones Thanos (Josh Brolin) was pursuing. Prior to the moment that Paul Bettany’s fan-favorite Avenger was killed by Thanos, Vision was being helped by Black Panther character Shuri (Letitia Wright). According to an intriguing Avengers: Endgame theory via Reddit, Shuri was able to finish her plan and remove Vision’s sentience from the grasp of the stone, separating the two to save him. Check out the interesting fan theory in the post below.
Paul Bettany is currently set to reprise his role of Vision in a new series coming to the Disney+ streaming service titled WandaVision. The series will be one of many MCU shows coming to Disney+ and will feature Paul Bettany’s Vision reteaming with his beloved Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), aka Scarlet Witch.
