In 2016, Paul Feig directed the Ghostbusters reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. The film became controversial due to the replacing of the original cast with a new all-female team. Paul Feig battled trolls online during the film’s production and it resulted in the 2016 Ghostbusters film underperforming at the box office.
Brie Larson recently came under fire for comments she made during press for Captain Marvel. This led to angry trolls swarming the Rotten Tomatoes page for the film in an effort to hurt its audience score. Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
