Disney’s first live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian has found its star in Game of Thrones and Narcos actor Pedro Pascal.
Variety reports that Pedro Pascal has been offered the lead role in the highly-anticipated series and that negotiations are now underway. Pascal’s name has been rumored for the role since early October, but he was just one of many actors being considered at the time, according to the trade.
The series has been written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as executive producer along with Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni, Colin Wilson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producing.
In addition to his other duties, Filoni has also been confirmed to direct the first episode with additional episodes being helmed by Deborah Chow (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). Production is currently underway.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Warsuniverse. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian is coming exclusively on Disney+, which is expected to launch by the end of 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
