Originally, the fifth and sixth installments of the Pirates franchise were set to film back to back, but those plans have changed after the disappointment of Dead Men Tell No Tales. Bruckheimer discussed the possible production on the sixth installment of the franchise in an interview with Yahoo Movies, revealing that it may hinge on how well the home release of Pirates 5 performs:
“Well, I hope we can continue to make it, but you know we’ve been having so much fun just promoting this one right now that we’ll just have to wait and see. Hopefully it’s very successful on DVD as the other ones have been. Then hopefully we’ll sit down and see where we go.”
Bruckheimer then went onto talk about the disappointing performance of Dead Men Tell No Tales, pushing back at the negative response:
“The media likes to run with the reviews and we didn’t get great reviews, so they like to say it didn’t do well. But god it’s at what, $790 [million] now? It’s amazing.”
Directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and Keira Knightley.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 3, 2017.
