Jason David Frank reveals that he had a completely different cameo shot for 'Power Rangers,' which featured the return of Tommy's ponytail.
“The first cameo we did was cut. Me and Amy were filming in the Krispy Kreme. I grew a ponytail out for that. I was thinking, ‘If I grow the ponytail out, I’ll shock the fans when they see me.’ We shot a scene there with Rita [Elizabeth Banks], and we were dressed in green and pink.”
Sadly, Frank’s hair was already chopped off by the time he was informed of the re-shoot. Luckily, Frank has stated that there is tons of behind-the-scenes footage of the original cameo. Hopefully it will become available on the Blu-Ray release, along with the full deleted cameo scene. In the meantime, you can check out a photo of Frank with the old Tommy hair below (along with Johnson and director Dean Isrealite), which he just posted on his official Facebook page.
Directed by Dean Israelite, Power Rangers stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston, and Elizabeth Banks.
The story follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.
