Lionsgate Isn’t Actually Planning To Make 7 ‘Power Rangers’ Movies

There were recently many reports making the rounds claiming that Lionsgate is aiming to make up to six more Power Rangers movies after the release of the first one which is currently filming in Vancouver. It all started when Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said the following during a conference call:

“We are really, really excited about the ‘Power Rangers’ movie, we could see doing five or six or seven.”

Now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the studio isn’t actually planning to make that many Power Rangers movies, which isn’t really that surprising. In fact, they haven’t even greenlighted a sequel yet, but they believe that this property could eventually become a lucrative franchise. That is something that the studio is going to need now that they no longer have The Hunger Games movies to rely upon, unless they’re really going to move forward with those rumored prequels.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see how Dean Israelite’s Power Rangers does at the box office and whether or not it’s going to be a good movie, but it’s still to early too tell since it’s still shooting, so we probably won’t even get a trailer for a while. Truth be told, I hope it does well just so there won’t be any Hunger Games prequels in the near future, because I’m sure that they’ll somehow find a way to ruin the franchise even more after that disappointing finale.

Starring Dacre Montgomery, Becky G, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin and Elizabeth Banks, Power Rangers is currently set to hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
