The Cinematography
Preacher carries a sharp visual sense, but this week is even more exceptionally gorgeous. There’s no doubt “South Will Rise Again” is directed by a cinematographer. Every scene is vibrant with color, lived-in with grace and filled with fraught intensity, and it’s a beauty to behold. Multiple shots of trees, in particular, including the one I placed above, are among the most well-crafted images I’ve seen on TV this year. And almost all of them are found in the first 10 minutes. It’s some breathtaking work, and I hope this bleeds into the second half of the season. It’s evident Preacher is based on a comic, and I’m very glad they’re keeping the splendor in the ugliness throughout.
