Producers And Writer Set For Mark Millar’s ‘Empress’

It seems that Mark Millar’s comic book catalogue continue to be optioned, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, producers and writers are attached for a big-screen adaptation of his latest work, Empress – a story he feels is, his “Most ambitious work.”

Millar is partnering with producers Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum to bring Empress to life. F. Scott Frazier, screenwriter of the upcoming xXx: The Return of Xander Cage has been tapped to pen the script.

Co-created with Stuart Immonen, Empress follows the story of the wife of a Galactic dictator who decides to flee from her evil husband along with her three kids and the assistance of her bodyguard. Unfortunately, her husband has armies on his belt, coming in at full-force ready to thwart her escape plan.

Marvel’s Icon Imprint published Empress issue #1 in April, becoming a success with copies selling out at comic book stores. Issue #2 will drop tomorrow.

This marks the latest collaboration between Millar and producer Kirschenbaum, having previously worked together on Wanted. Kirschenbaum told THR, “Nobody creates universes that translate into big movie ideas better than Millar. With Empress, he’s raised the bar yet again. Part Star Wars, part Guardians of the Galaxy and part something wholly fresh that only the amazing brain of Millar could spawn.”

With the rights of Millar’s Supercrooks and American Jesus acquired by Waypoint Entertainment and the upcoming sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle currently in production, which adaptation from Millar’s prolific work are you most excited for? Discuss in the comments below.
