Ray Fisher Discusses Cyborg’s Influence On Him & Being Cast In ‘Justice League’

There are a lot of fans who are very excited about Justice League. To start with, there’ll actually be other characters involved besides Batman and Superman. Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and The Flash will also be gracing our screens. Ray Fisher, who will be playing Cyborg, is just as excited for the movie.

At this weekend’s Rhode Island Comic Con, Ray Fisher was at a panel with Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot. While there, he talked about being a fan of the old DC cartoons and growing up watching them.

“I actually grew up watching a lot of these cartoons – a lot of the animated series. Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, all the stuff that would come onto Cartoon Network. My first encounter with Cyborg was through the Teen Titans cartoon.”

Ray Fisher continued, discussing how Teen Titans, in particular, influenced him.

“You know, I was in the middle of high school [when Teen Titans debuted], and I was like, ‘This show speaks to me’ because there were all of these characters going through these real teen issues while also saving the world. The extent of my knowledge was just about that.”

So being a fan himself, Ray Fisher was more than happy about being cast as Cyborg and falling in love with the character in the comics, in addition to the show.

“Once I was cast, though, they send you a whole library of stuff about the character so I ended up being able to fall in love with the comic book version, which can be very different. I feel like I know him like the back of my hand, but there’s always somebody who knows a little more than me about things.”

So will Ray Fisher’s version of Cyborg draw more from the show or the comics?

Fisher made his debut as Cyborg earlier this year in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. It was more of a cameo role, but it introduced the audience to his character very briefly. It’ll be exciting to see what Ray Fisher brings to the character when he makes a more well-rounded appearance in next year’s Justice League.
