Although Millenium Films’ Red Sonja adaptation was on the slate last year at the American Film Market, the studio informed the outlet that “the project is not on the slate at the moment and is not for sale at the EFM in Berlin.” While the outlet notes Milleniums’ statement seems to acknowledge Bryan Singer may not be the right choice for the project at this point, the filmmaker has not been formally removed from the Red Sonja film. The project was expected to begin production in Bulgaria this year, though this is no longer the case and a cast has not been set for the film.
Bryan Singer is the subject of multiple sexual misconduct allegations, though the filmmaker denies any wrongdoing. To date, the filmmaker has not been charged or convicted of a crime.
In the comics, Red Sonja is a sword-wielding heroine with a dark backstory including her sexual assault. Known as the “She-Devil with a Sword,” she is the greatest swordswoman of the Hyborean Age.
