Reed Morano Confirms Lucasfilm Meeting; Denies ‘Star Wars’ Rumors

While director Reed Morano did confirm her meeting with Lucasfilm, she also denied rumors that she could direct an upcoming 'Star Wars' film.

Last week the internet was abuzz following word that The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer & director Reed Morano had met with Lucasfilm. The article implied that she had very likely met with Kathleen Kennedy about potentially directing a Star Wars film, which if true, would make Morano the franchise’s first female director.

At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Vulture spoke with Morano about her latest film I Think We’re Alone Now and of course that article came up. While Morano did confirm her meeting with Lucasfilm, she says that rumors of her taking a trip to a galaxy far, far away are nothing more than that.

“I can tell you it’s a rumor. I did have a meeting with Kathleen Kennedy, which was great, I’m a huge admirer of hers. But, uh yeah, I don’t know where that rumor came from.”

Now, there’s two things worth noting here. If Morano was indeed directing a Star Wars film, she definitely wouldn’t just come out and tell whoever asked her about it. But if she is indeed being honest about not directing a Star Wars film for Lucasfilm? Well, there’s always that live-action Star Wars series that’s in development for Disney’s streaming service.

Following her critically acclaimed work on The Handmaid’s Tale, wouldn’t be completely surprised if Kathleen Kennedy met with her about that series. When there’s smoke, there’s usually some kind of fire. Most of the time at least. Be sure to stay tuned for any further updates and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
