Regina King Will Only Reprise ‘Watchmen’ Role If Damon Lindelof Returns

Regina King will only return to the 'Watchmen' role if Damon Lindelof returns for a second season.

Watchmen star Regina King is only interested in reprising her role if showrunner Damon Lindelof returns to the series.

Watchmen was a show that surprised everyone with just how good it was. The series itself functioned as a sequel to the Alan Moore graphic novel of the same name and gave us an idea as to what the world would look like following Adrian Veidt’s actions in the book. What was perhaps the most surprising is the fact that a second season to the series is by no means guaranteed.

Damon Lindelof has expressed a great deal of hesitation about returning to the franchise and has stated that he has no idea where they would even go with a second season. The season notably ended on a cliff hanger, with Regina King’s character potentially inheriting Doctor Manhattan’s powers. However, this cliffhanger may never be resolved.

While participating in one of Variety’s Actors on Actors pieces, Regina King discussed the possibility of returning to Watchmen. She stated, however, that she’s only interested in returning to the series if Damon Lindelof returns to run the show, praising the showrunner’s collaborative abilities:

“You know, I don’t know. Honestly, I feel like I think HBO would want it back in a heartbeat, but if Damon Lindelof doesn’t see an entry point for Season 2 — I think that the possibilities are infinite, but I feel that if Damon doesn’t see it, then it’s going to be a no for me. I discovered this from working on Southland, because that experience was so great, I don’t want to be a part of anything if it’s not a collaborative situation. Damon is such a great collaborator, and at this stage, what’s the point if we can’t feel like we’re taking some bit of ownership?”

What do you all make fo Regina King’s words? Would you like to have a second season of Watchmen without Damon Lindelof? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here is the official synopsis for Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen:

Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, WATCHMEN embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.

The series is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television, based on Alan Moore’s graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC.
