Richard Armitage Reveals He Auditioned To Play Zack Snyder’s Batman

The Hobbit star Richard Armitage reveals that he auditioned for the role of Batman in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Richard Armitage has revealed that he auditioned for the role of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before it ultimately went to Ben Affleck.

Armitage is probably best known for his work as Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit trilogy and his villainous role in this summer’s Ocean 8. While speaking with Digital Spy, the actor revealed that he came very close becoming Zack Snyder’s Batman before Ben Affleck eventually got the role. This is what Richard Armitage had to say about the audition process.

“There was a little flurry once upon a time just after I’d come out of The Hobbit where I auditioned for Batman,

It was at the same time that Christian Bale was leaving, there were about five or six actors that were in line for that character, so I went through quite a process with that.”

It turns out that we came much closer to a Richard Armitage Batman than fans ever thought. Armitage wasn’t one of the biggest names being thrown around by fan casting across the web when the Batman casting storm happened, but he definitely has the right look for the Caped Crusader.

Fans may never have got a Richard Armitage Batman but there’s a strong chance that this news will cause a wildfire of fan art that will capture what could have been. This isn’t the first time that Richard Armitage would’ve appeared in a superhero film, though. Armitage had a small role in Captain America: The First Avenger as the German spy who infiltrated the super soldier experiment.
