It looks like the rumors were true as Deadline has confirmed that Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa is indeed in final negotiations to direct The Flash for Warner Bros. starring Ezra Miller as The Fastest Man Alive.
The script of the movie was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who was initially on board to direct the project but later parted ways with the studio due to creative differences. The studio had been looking for a replacement ever since and it looks like they found the right man for the job in Famuyiwa, who all but confirmed his involvement with the project when he followed a bunch of DCEU-related accounts on Twitter over the weekend.
The trade reckons that the director landed the gig because of his vision which “would resonate with young viewers and that vision was very compatible with the script that the studio is moving toward the start gate with.” The fact that he directed Dope probably helped as well, which in my opinion was one of the best movies of 2015 and an absolute blast from start to finish. It was something fresh, which is exactly what the DC Extended Universe needs right now.
Ezra Miller made his debut as The Flash in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He will next be seen in the first Justice League movie which is currently shooting in London and is set to hit theaters on November 16, 2017. The Flash is currently slated for release on March 16, 2018. Are you excited?
