While comic book fans are still celebrating Joaquin Phoenix’s win for his Joker performance, comedian Ricky Gervais chimed in with his stance on Marvel Studios’ movies while making jokes about Martin Scorsese’s recent controversial opinions about the genre. Fans will remember that Martin Scorsese compared the movies that Marvel Studios make to theme park rides while explaining that they dominate the box office in a way that pushes out smaller films.
Comedian Ricky Gervais took the opportunity to joke about Martin Scorsese’s comments about Marvel Studios at the Golden Globes. He explained that he wasn’t sure what Martin Scorsese was doing near theme park rides, since he’s not tall enough. Comedian Ricky Gervais also explained that he’s also not a fan of the superhero genre, noting that there were several actors who have superhero roles under their belt in the audience. Take a look at Ricky Gervais’ jokes about Martin Scorsese and Marvel Studios below.
“Martin Scorsese, the greatest living director, made the news for his controversial comments about the Marvel franchise. He said they’re not real cinema, and they remind him of theme parks. I agree. Although I don’t know what he’s doing hanging around at theme parks — he’s not big enough to go on the rides. He’s tiny. The actors who just do Hollywood movies now do fantasy adventure nonsense. They wear masks and capes and really tight costumes. Their job isn’t acting anymore. It’s going to a gym twice a day and taking steroids. Have we got an award for ‘Most Ripped Junkie?’ No point, we know who’d win that.”
