Daisy Ridley On The Possible Rey/Poe Romance In ‘Star Wars: Episode IX

Daisy Ridley shares her thoughts on a possible romance between the two characters in the upcoming 'Star Wars: Episode IX'.

While some fans online might be “shipping” the idea of Rey and Poe together following the scene where they finally meet in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it sounds like Daisy Ridley isn’t really feeling the idea. Speaking with MTime about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Daisy Ridley was asked about a possible romantic relationship between the two characters and had a fantastic response

“I haven’t spoken to J.J. but I am, I did a film this year that isn’t romantic. I think it’s wonderful to have relationships that are not romantic. I don’t think in films you always need a romantic relationship and I think friend relationships can be romantic in their gestures and their intimacy and all of that. I think — hopefully — if Rey and Poe get to have some scenes together and stuff, that there will be intimacy. I think it doesn’t — for me — it doesn’t have to be romantic love.”

While Ridley is seemingly shooting down the idea of the romance between the two character, she’s also seemingly shooting down the idea that these characters “need” romance when it comes to their stories which I couldn’t agree with more. And if there’s anything we learned from The Last Jedi, we shouldn’t go into the next Star Wars film expecting anything.

What do you think about the above? Let us know your thought on Ridley’s comments in the section below.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
