Ridley Scott Believes He’s ‘Too Dangerous’ For ‘Star Wars’

Sci-fi legend Ridley Scott doesn't believe that he would be the right person for the job when it comes to making a Star Wars film.

When you think of sci-fi directors, there’s no doubt that the name Ridley Scott comes to mind. The legendary director of such films as Alien, Blade Runner and The Martian definitely has quite the sci-fi resume. But would the 80-year-old veteran be interested in directing a Star Wars movie in the future?

While speaking with Vulture about his latest film All The Money In The World,  Ridley Scott was asked about that but believes that he is “too dangerous”for the Star Wars franchise. When asked about that statement, Scott elaborated further on the subject.

“Because I know what I’m doing. [Laughs.] I think they like to be in control, and I like to be in control myself. When you get a guy who’s done a low-budget movie and you suddenly give him $180 million, it makes no sense whatsoever. It’s fuckin’ stupid. You know what the reshoots cost? Millions! Millions. You can get me for my fee, which is heavy, but I’ll be under budget and on time. This is where experience does matter, it’s as simple as that! It can make you dull as dishwater, but if you’re really experienced and you know what you’re doing, it’s fucking essential. Grow into it, little by little. Start low-budget, get a little bit bigger, maybe after $20 million, you can go to $80. But don’t suddenly go to $160.”

While I definitely think Ridley Scott would make an interesting Star Wars film, the director has always seemed the type of director more interested in doing his own thing. I’m personally way more interested in seeing the director pursue projects that he’s more passionate about which hopefully includes getting to make that sequel to Alien: Covenant. Fingers crossed. Let us know your thoughts on what Ridley Scott had to say about Star Wars in the comments section below.
