Ridley Scott Says Neil Blomkamp’s ‘Alien 5’ Didn’t Have A Script

Ridley Scott, the godfather of the Alien franchise has made it very clear that we’ll most likely never seen Neil Blomkamp’s proposed Alien 5. News of Neil Blomkamp’s planned sequel made its way online after he paired up with Sigourney Weaver in his 2015 film Chappie. Neil Blomkamp launched onto the scene after his 2009 debut District 9 and later released Elysium in 2013.

Blomkamp’s film would have effectively wiped the slate clean by removing Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection from the franchise’s timeline and would have continued Ripley’s story by serving it justice. The film would have also included an adult Newt and Cpl. Hicks, both who were found dead at the beginning of Alien 3.

However, all of Blomkamp’s plans seemed to have been halted after Ridley Scott announced his sequel to his 2012 film Prometheus and this year’s Alien: Covenant. It now seems that the prospects of an Alien sequel by Neil Blomkamp seems very unlikely if we go by the words of Ridley Scott who recently spoke to French publication Allocine. “I don’t think it will ever see the light of day. There was never a script. Just an idea that evolved from a dozen or so pages. I had to participate as producer, but it didn’t go farther because Fox decided it didn’t want to do it. As far I was concerned, I had already done Prometheus and I was working on Covenant. “

Well, I don’t dig this news at all. Personally, I’m a big fan of Blomkamp’s resume, especially Chappie, which I genuinely believe is a stroke of genius. Despite my broken heart, it’s great to see Scott returning to the Alien franchise, especially after Prometheus, which I believe is also great.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Alien: Covenant releases to UK audiences on May 12th, and hits theaters stateside on May 19th.
