No, Robert Downey Jr. Isn’t Returning As Iron Man For Disney Plus’ ‘What If…?’

Robert Downey Jr. reportedly won’t be reprising his role as Iron Man for Disney Plus’ animated What If…? series.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming line-up of original series’ for Disney Plus include an animated What If…? show. Based on the comic book series of the same name, Disney Plus’ What If…? will tell stories about the Marvel Cinematic Universe might have unfolded had key events played out differently.

While Robert Downey Jr.’s time with the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to an end with Tony Stark’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Ragnarok star Jeff Goldblum recently stated the Iron Man star would return to voice the hero for Disney Plus’ What If…? series. However, The Wrap reports that an individual with knowledge of the situation has informed them that Jeff Goldblum misspoke and Robert Downey Jr. is not going to voice Iron Man for What If…? on Disney Plus.

Of course, fans will remember that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man sacrificed himself by using the Infinity Stones to erase Thanos and his army from existence. What If…? is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus in mid-2021.
