After nearly a decade, Robert Kirkman made the surprising decision to end The Walking Dead comic book story with issue #193. Set decades after the unexpected death of Rick Grimes in Robert Kirkman’s issue #192, the first panel of The Walking Dead comic finale reveals Carl Grimes sitting in a rocking chair with his daughter, Andrea, revealing he survived the Zombie apocalypse and raised a family with Sophia.
At this point, walkers are no longer considered a threat and killing them has become a crime. In fact, Carl Grimes finds himself on trial for killing a walker that wandered onto his farm that happened to belong to the adult Hershel Rhee, son of Maggie and the deceased Glenn. Overseeing the trial of Carl is Judge Michonne Hawthorne, who is revealed to have a granddaughter after previously reuniting with her daughter Eldoie in an earlier issue. Michonne and Alexandria Safe-Zone leader Maggie make a joint decision to forgive Carl for his crime without punishment, though he is ordered to find a replacement walker for Hershel, who uses them for his traveling show.
