‘The Walking Dead’: Robert Kirkman Wants Series To Last Beyond Season 10

When a show has a huge spike in popularity and potentially enters the social consciousness even more with the opening episode of its seventh season a whole seven years after it first hit our screens, which is something that The Walking Dead arguably has achieved, you can’t really blame Robert Kirkman for eyeing up the opportunity for the show to run for at least another three, which is exactly what he’s doing.

In the past Kirkman has cited the show as a zombie movie that never ends, however in a recent issue of The Walking Dead‘s ongoing comic book series, Kirkman took to his regular Letter Hacks column to elaborate on just how serious he is about that:

“[There’s] no telling how long the show will last. [I’m] very hopeful we will last to Season 10 and beyond.”

He had also previously taken to his Letter Hacks column to explain the plans going forward with regard to the relation of the timeline between the TV show and the comic series:

“It took us 6 seasons to get to [issue] 100, it won’t take us 6 years to get to 200 and that will take us to season … TWELVE. And we’ll still be ahead of the show at that point.”

So, although wanting to reach 10 seasons and beyond might seem ambitious for the best of shows, the fact is that even with a ratings slide during season 6, The Walking Dead still remained one of the most watched shows on AMC. On top of that, the comic remains a few steps ahead of the show and is still being released regularly today, gifting a wealth of potential storylines to be covered in upcoming seasons of the show.

The Walking Dead season 7 will resume on February 12th at 9pm ET on AMC.
