Robert Pattinson’s Batman Will Have No Connection To Ben Affleck

Robert Pattinson’s Batman won’t be connected to Ben Affleck’s take on the iconic DC Comics character.

Earlier today, Deadline revealed that Warner Bros. has found its new Batman in Robert Pattinson. Though negotiations are not yet finalized, Warner Bros. has approved the casting and an official announcement is expected to arrive soon.

In the same report about Robert Pattinson’s casting, Deadline mentions The Batman won’t be connected to the Ben Affleck version of Bruce Wayne, who made his debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. According to the trade:

“This film will in no way carry on the work that Ben Affleck did as the older Batman in Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League.”

Former Bruce Wayne Ben Affleck was originally set to write and direct The Batman. He eventually stepped down and handed the duties to Matt Reeves, who’s been attached to the movie since February 2017. Nearly a year later, Ben Affleck revealed that he had decided to hang up the cape and cowl, allowing Reeves to look for a younger Batman.

Plot details for The Batman project are currently under wraps. It’s said to revolve around a young Bruce Wayne and Matt Reeves has previously confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes a Flash standalone film, Green Lantern CorpsBlack AdamThe Suicide SquadNightwingSupergirlPlastic Man and New Gods.

The Batman is set to open in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on the project.
