Yesterday, fans learned Robert Pattinson was the official frontrunner to play the titular hero of Matt Reeves’ The Batman and fans who are seemingly unfamiliar with the actor’s full body of work were vocally displeased with the decision. Despite the fact that Robert Pattinson has yet to officially sign a deal to star in The Batman, multiple petitions to replace the actor as the Dark Knight have already been launched by disgruntled fans.
Change.org currently has multiple petitions urging Warner Bros. to reconsider casting Robert Pattinson as the new Batman, with one suggesting Armie Hammer as the only alternative for the role while another insists the studio would be making the same mistake as casting Ben Affleck should the Twilight star land the job. Another considers the issue to be “self-explanatory,” but perhaps the harshest of them all claims Robert Pattinson would be the worst casting decision for Batman to date:
“There’s no way Robert Pattinson should play Batman. This is a complete joke! This would be the worst casting ever for the dark knight.”
Where do you stand on these ridiculous petitions to replace Robert Pattinson? Are you among those who believe Robert Pattinson has proven he has the acting skills to play the Dark Knight? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and includes multiple villains. Matt Reeves also confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic and will use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC Films.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
