Robert Pattinson’s ‘The Batman’ Villains Could Get Solo Films

Warner Bros. and DC reportedly believe there could be spinoff films for the villains who appear in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.

Robert Pattinson is set to become the latest actor to portray the Dark Knight with Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman. While full details on The Batman are currently unknown, Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader will cross paths a number of classic villains, including Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman and Paul Dano’s The Riddler, with a handful of scenes reportedly set in Arkham Asylum where the most notorious criminals are housed.

Now, Variety reports that Warner Bros. and DC believe these villains could become the focus of their own spinoff films. According to the report, key cast members who will appear opposite Robert Pattinson in The Batman have contract options for both sequels and standalone films.

Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Recently, Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
