Robert Pattinson Met For Marvel Role Around James Gunn’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

The Batman star Robert Pattinson has revealed that he met with Marvel Studios around the time of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

This morning, Variety published a profile piece on Robert Pattinson, focusing on the actor’s upcoming projects. One of them is Warner Bros. and DC’s The Batman, which will see the 33-year-old actor replace Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader. The movie will be one of his first blockbusters since Twilight, but he once had a shot at joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During his interview with Variety, Robert Pattinson revealed that he met with Marvel Studios for an informational meeting around the time of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. However, nothing came out of it. The actor explained why things didn’t work out between him and Marvel:

“I don’t know what I would really be chasing. The idea of trying that transition after ‘Twilight,’ I never saw a road in that direction.”

As for why he chose to do The Batman, Robert Pattinson had the following to say:

“It’s actually an interesting part. I think it’s because he doesn’t have any superpowers.”

The Batman is currently in pre-production, with filming expected to begin early next year. Cloverfield and War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves is directing the movie from his own script. It’s expected to be the first chapter in a new Batman movie trilogy with Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, taking over from Ben Affleck, who played the character in three DC Extended Universe movies.

While production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to begin early this year, the project was put on hold following the decision to remove James Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy. Now, James Gunn will begin production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film after completing work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC. Details on the third and final chapter of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame.

Stay tuned for the latest news on Robert Pattinson, The Batman, James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!
