‘The Batman’: New Poll Shows Young Fans Approve Of Robert Pattinson Casting

A new Hollywood Reporter/Morning Consult poll finds young Americans approve of Robert Pattinson being cast in The Batman as opposed to Nicholas Hoult.

Last month, Robert Pattinson was officially cast as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman over Nicholas Hoult, the only other actor considered for the coveted role. While news of Robert Pattinson’s casting prompted a vocal group of fans to express their dissatisfaction, it appears younger fans approve of the former Twilight star being tapped to play the new Batman over Nicholas Hoult.

According to the results of a Hollywood Reporter/Morning Consult conducted among 2,201 adults between June 6 and 9, 42% of those surveyed in the 18-29 age bracket approve of Robert Pattinson’s casting as Batman while 30% prefer Nicholas Hoult. When the age range is limited to 18-22, Robert Pattinson’s numbers reach 48%. However, older audiences surveyed rank Nicholas Hoult slightly above Robert Pattinson as their preferred choice, including fans in the 45-54 and 55-64 age brackets.

Bekah Decker, the co-founder of Robert Pattinson fanzine LettersToRob.com, noted Robert Pattinson’s Twilight role likely plays a key role in younger fans approving of his Batman casting over Nicholas Hoult.

“Twilight fans are totally on board. I think their dedication to Rob is the kind that means fans who weren’t Batman fans before are now going to devour all things Batman, in support of Rob. Bruce Wayne is dark, [Pattinson’s Twilight character] Edward [Cullen] is dark. There is a vigilante quality in Edward — more in the books — that is an obvious tie to Batman.”

Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that reportedly includes Catwoman. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC Films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
