REPORT: Robert Pattinson’s ‘The Batman’ To Shoot Batmobile Scenes In Scotland

Robert Pattinson’s The Batman will be filming some of its Gotham City scene in Glasgow, Scotland.

Currently filming in London, the Robert Pattinson film will eventually move to Glasgow next month to pad out its Gotham City scenes. Parts of the iconic Scotland city will be transformed to specifically reflect Gotham City locations, though there isn’t any information as to what these locations will be. Glasgow is no stranger to big-budget productions, with 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War also shooting key scenes there.

Glasgow is an interesting choice for Robert Pattinson’ The Batman as the film has a uniquely Gothic architecture and isn’t the same sprawling megalopolis that London is. One can imagine that the scenes for The Batman filmed in Glasgow will be more intimate and hone in on the detective-driven elements that director Matt Reeves has previously discussed. According to Daily Record, the scenes to be shot in Glasgow will also feature the Batmobile, which means we’ll probably get some tightly shot car chase scenes through the various markets the city has to boast.

One of the most compelling parts about Robert Pattinson’s The Batman is how its already begun to separate itself from the previous Batman films. From the leaked set photos we’ve seen from London, the film is going for a timeless look, though many are speculating that it’s set in the ’90s. And by transforming Glasgow into Gotham City, we can expect the Robert Pattinson film to exponentially highlight the Neo-Gothic elements of the fictional city. All of the portrayals of the Batman city we’ve seen have been heavily focused on showing it as a decaying urban metropolis, so this will certainly be a nice change of pace.

Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and feature a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and Peter Sarsgaard.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
