‘The Batman’ Star Robert Pattinson Shares Honest Thoughts On Method Acting

The Batman star Robert Pattinson shares his honest thoughts on the “method acting” approach some actors and actresses use in certain roles.

Robert Pattinson recently appeared on an episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors series with Hustlers star Jennifer Lopez. During their conversation, Robert Pattinson made some interesting comments on method acting, the approach that was popularized from Stanislavski’s system in which a performer strives to complete emotional identification with a role. In other words, a performer would remain “in character” even when the cameras aren’t rolling.

Here is what The Batman star Robert Pattinson has to say about method acting:

I always say about people doing Method acting, you only ever see people doing Method when they’re playing an a–hole. You never see someone just being lovely to everyone going, ‘I’m really deep in character.”

Method acting is a practice that has been commonly used by actors and actresses in varying degrees. Performers known for their complete transformations include the likes of Daniel Day-Lewis and even much of the actors involved in Batman films including Jack Nicholson, Jim Carrey, Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro.

Robert Pattinson is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation and has delivered performances some have believed were the product of his own method acting approach. Hearing him share his honest thoughts on the method acting approach hints at his insight as one of the most prominent actors in the industry who will also be the newest actor to bring The Batman to life.
