Speaking to The Observer, Robert Pattinson explained that the Batman is one of those roles that spoke to him as an actor, so he made an effort to get into the role as soon as he possibly could. Here’s what he had to say:
“I felt a connection to it, I don’t know why. I just really wanted it. [The role of the Batman has] power; everyone is attracted to it. It’s an unidentifiable thing.”
Aside from his personal interest in The Batman, Robert Pattinson explained that he feels weird talking about the movie well before anything has filmed:
“I’m already remembering what it’s like to talk about a movie where there’s an expectation. Whenever you say anything, people are like, ‘Argh! You idiot!’ Like, dude, I haven’t even started yet!”
Filming on The Batman is set to begin either next month or the month after that, so Robert Pattinson likely won’t have much longer to be anxious over a lack of new subjects to talk about once he’s actually taken part on the set.
Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jayme Lawson as Bella, and Peter Sarsgaard as Wasserman. Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
