The Batman has found its director of photography in three-time Oscar winner Robert Richardson.
According to Discussing Film, The Batman has recruited cinematographer Robert Richardson, a frequent collaborator of Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. Robert Richardson’s latest project is the upcoming Tarantino flick Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood.
Robert Richardson has won three Academy Awards for Best Cinematography for his work on JFK, The Aviator and Hugo. His other credits include Inglourious Basterds, Shutter Island, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and A Private War.
Plot details for The Batman are being kept under lock and key. Previous rumors once pointed to an earlier version of the script featuring Ben Affleck bookending the film as his current Batman while the film introduced a younger version of the Dark Knight. But with Ben Affleck officially retired from the role, Robert Pattinson has officially replaced the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League actor in the role.
While details are slim, The Batman director Matt Reeves has confirmed that his film is not based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic and will emphasize Batman as the world’s greatest detective more than previous films have in the past. Filming is expected to begin early next year.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Films. The list also includes The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, Nightwing, and DC’s Birds of Prey spin-off Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) with Margot Robbie.
The Batman opens in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on The Batman and the future of the DC Extended Universe.
