Robin Wright Says ‘Wonder Woman’ Is About Love And Justice

As part of a "Women in Motion" series Q&A at Cannes 2017, Robin Wright was asked about 'Wonder Woman' and said the film is about love and justice.

While at Cannes, Wright participated in the “Women in Motion” series and sat down for a Q&A session. During the affair, she was asked what she could reveal about Wonder Woman.

After a bit of joking and saying the film is “so cool,” Wright proceeded to explain:

“What’s really great about it is … it sounds really cheesy and Hallmark card and the platitudes we see on the wall, but this movie, yes it’s a female superhero and it’s never been done before and … the generation, the young girls and the young boys, that we’re talking about, that are going to be our future, they’re going to flock to the cinema. And the message of this movie is not just female empowerment. It’s about love and justice. That’s what the film is about. And what a great message to spread to our little ones.”

Although Wonder Woman has often been given the “female empowerment” label, Wright’s words really highlight the essence of her character and give great hope that the film will be powerful and meaningful in ways that pay homage to the character and what she truly stands for.

You can watch Wright discuss Wonder Woman via Variety’s tweet below.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers… and her true destiny.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, and Saïd Taghmaoui.

Wonder Woman hits theaters June 2, 2017.
