Dwayne Johnson Wants ‘Wonder Woman’ Director For ‘Jungle Cruise’

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will star in Disney's Jungle Cruise adaptation, but he really wants Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins to direct the movie.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who will star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, has stated that he would love for Patty Jenkins to direct the project. Given that Jenkins directed Wonder Woman and that Johnson is slated to star as anti-hero Black Adam, this would make for an interesting combination of DC-related talent working together under the company that owns Marvel.

Talking with The Associated Press, Johnson revealed that his #1 – and currently, only – choice to direct the adaptation of the Disneyland ride is the director behind Monster and Wonder Woman:

Patty [Jenkins] has that really cool edge… I felt like she could be a really cool choice for a movie like Jungle Cruise. Plus, you know what? I’m just a big fan.

It’s possible that as a DC insider, Johnson has seen a bit of Wonder Woman and is impressed enough with what he’s seen that he’d like to work with Jenkins personally. Or it may just be that he’s familiar with some of her earlier projects like Monster and he’d like to work with her as an actor, even though the project probably has a lot more in common with a tentpole like Wonder WomanJungle Cruise won’t start filming for a while, so it’ll be a ways away until Jenkins is confirmed as a director – or perhaps not.

Jungle Cruise does not yet have an official release date (which is curious given that Disney announced a number of new films recently), but is expected to begin filming in Spring 2018. In the meantime, you can catch Johnson’s Baywatch on May 25, 2017 and Jenkins’ Wonder Woman on June 2.
