Donnie Yen's role as Chirrut in Rogue One was one of the standout performances from the film, however, new details have emerged about his badass staff.
Despite being a Force-user, Chirrut was seen carrying his trusty staff everywhere he went. The character uses this to slay some Stormtroopers throughout the picture. Well at the end of the staff, a silver section of the stick is seen. According to the guide, inside is a Kyber crystal. You can read the description below:
“Designed as a symbolic source of inner illumination, it also allows Chirrut to better gauge where the end of the staff is, as he can hear both the battery and crystal harmonic.”
Despite Rogue One being the first Star Wars film to not feature any Jedi, it is simply amazing how prominent both the Force, and Kyber crystals played. Many fans would have loved the idea of Chirrut being a Jedi, but as the movie was marketed, and displayed as a flick with no Jedi, it makes complete sense why he was not one. Chirrut was one of Rogue One‘s best characters, with his vision of the Force as a religious entity being one the most unique aspects of his role.
What do you guys think? Would you have liked Chirrut to have been a Jedi? Honestly, I think his role was perfect, but if his staff lit up with a badass blade, I would have loved him even more. You can check out Rogue One now.
