‘Rogue One’ Easter Eggs Discussed By LucasFilm Story Group

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been out in theaters for over a month now. Like with every piece of Star Wars media that was released post-Return of the Jedi, the film is riddled with countless easter eggs that sometimes, even the most ardent Star Wars fans could miss.

Andi Gutierrez got a chance to interview three members of the LucasFilm story group  on The Star Wars Show. Leland Chee, Pablo Hidalgo and Matt Martin got a chance to explain some of their favorite easter eggs found in Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars Story.

Since Disney purchased LucasFilm, every new story within the Star Wars universe is officially canon, with all the previous expanded universe stories relegated to the “Legends” moniker. Rogue One has the luxury of taking place between not just Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, but also takes place after the Star Wars Rebels animated series.

Thanks to its place within the timeline, Rogue One had the opportunity to feature some easter eggs related to the Rebels show. It’s been common knowledge among Star Wars fans for weeks that we see Chopper in live-action form during the film’s incredible third act, the Ghost makes an appearance along with the other Rebel ships during the space battle, and we even hear a namedrop for Hera Syndulla, who eventually becomes a General after the television series.

Hearing the story group discuss some of the other hidden references for hardcore fans showcased that there are even more gems to uncover on further viewings. For one, I didn’t realize that young Jyn Erso owned a Loth-cat doll, which is a creature featured in the animated series. Also, it’s interesting to see the parallels between both Jyn and Rey, both owning dolls that reflect the times they are living in.

What are some of your favorite easter eggs found in Rogue One? Sound off in the comments below.
