Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be joining Netflix's library of streamable content, making it the first live-action Star Wars film to do so in the USA.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be added to Netflix streaming, making it the first Disney-produced Star Wars movie that audiences in the United States can watch on the service.
A few months after its release on home video formats and a little over half a year after the movie was shown in theaters, Rogue One is officially joining Netflix’s library of immediately-streamable material. This is a practice similar to what Disney and Netflix have done with two of their most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe films (Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange). The film will be added to the service on July 18.
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens can be viewed on Netflix in some regions, but it didn’t become part of the streaming service because of Disney’s active agreement to allow Starz to show the movie. The film is actually not the first Star Wars movie to join their library, as the animated movie that served as a prequel to the television series The Clone Wars has been a part of the service for a while.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is available on home video formats. The film’s cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendehlson, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen. James Earl Jones provides his voice for a cameo appearance as Darth Vader.
