‘Rogue One’ Reshoots Earn Writer Tony Gilroy Millions

Reshoots are common practice, especially with big-budget Hollywood productions. However, the reshoots for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story were lead by screenwriter Tony Gilroy, who assumed duties from director Gareth Edwards and would have just as much input on the final cut of the film as the latter filmmaker. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tony Gilroy will earn millions for his work on the reshoots and post-production.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

“The ‘Bourne’ scribe’s pay has grown from $200,000 a week to north of $5 million as work on the Star Wars standalone film expanded to include postproduction and tackling several issues including the ending.”

Though fan speculated that the news of Gilroy’s involvement signaled trouble for the first Star Wars standalone feature, anticipation for film is strong with ticket pre-sales already the largest for any film in 2016 .

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released in theaters on December 16, 2016.
