'Star Wars Rebels' Showrunner confirms 'Rogue One' Easter egg to be a reference to a fan favorite character from the Disney XD animated series.
One moment in film featured a voice over the intercom at the rebel base saying, “General Syndulla, please report.” This led to Star Wars Rebels fans rejoicing over the fact that this reference seemed to confirm that the fan favorite character, Hera Syndulla, will survive the events of the animated show. However, a few fans noted that the voice on the intercom could have been referring to Hera’s father, Cham, leading to a debate among viewers of the series over the identity of General Syndulla.
Showrunner Dave Filono has put the question to bed, confirming that the Easter egg was referring to Hera.
“I can clarify that’s absolutely Hera being paged, not her dad. The movie gives that away, but I would rather have all the [references] be right. Hera will eventually become a general in the Rebel Alliance.”
With Star Wars Rebels currently in it’s third season, the animated series now takes place approximately three years before the events of Rogue One. This means that while viewers are now aware that Hera will survive at least until the series catches up to Rogue One, there will likely still be a lot of story to tell before Hera ascends to the rank of general.
Star Wars Rebels returns with new episodes on January 7, 2017 on Disney XD. In the meantime, you can catch Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in theaters!
